WORLD HEALTH DAY

WORLD HEALTH DAY

Health is the value that nature has bestowed upon humans. It directly affects physical and moral well-being, productivity, and the ability to simply enjoy life. However, in conditions of eternal lack of time, stresses, lack of movement, and negligent attitude towards one's nutrition, people thoughtlessly squander their potential. The negative factors are compounded by environmental issues, economic instability, and healthcare problems. To draw attention to humanity’s health issues, the holiday "Health Day" was established.

International Health Day is celebrated every year on April 7th. The date was not chosen randomly. It coincides with the creation of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. From the very beginning, this organization aimed to create a better and healthier future for the entire global population. Its structure includes medical organizations, pharmaceutical enterprises, and pharmacy institutions. Since July 1, 2017, it has been led by the 8th Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. It includes 194 member states. The programs developed by the organization are implemented in practice. Among them, notable is:

- The tuberculosis control program

- The HIV/AIDS control program

- The road safety program

- The anti-tobacco program

Students have noted that in the Republic of Tajikistan, it has become a tradition to hold what are called "Health Caravans" on this day, where doctors travel to remote regions of our country for consultative purposes. The population is provided with laboratory and instrumental diagnostic methods. Planned surgeries are carried out for patients who cannot access qualified help in rural conditions.

Thanks to a coordinated mechanism and international cooperation, it has been possible to maximize population coverage in the fight against infections. The organization has experience in conducting anti-epidemic measures, such as combating tropical granuloma, smallpox, poliomyelitis, etc. The modern coronavirus pandemic not only prompted the development of strategies to organize measures against mass casualties but also highlighted deficiencies in aid to poorer countries. The identified problems will, of course, be taken into account for measures aimed at localizing and eradicating infections.

Every year, a new theme is selected, and activities are dedicated to it. First of all, the day has an advocacy role, as it aims to promote the importance of an active lifestyle, proper nutrition, timely diagnosis, and treatment.

Celebrations dedicated to caring for human and national health have been held worldwide for over 70 years. World Health Day not only reminds us of the personal responsibility for our well-being but also draws attention to global issues, such as fighting infectious diseases, preventing chronic illnesses, improving healthcare accessibility and quality, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and more.

WHO urges ensuring every inhabitant of the Earth the right to quality medical care, education, and information, as well as access to safe drinking water, clean air, proper nutrition, decent housing, decent working conditions, and environmental safety, free from discrimination.

Traditions of World Health Day

In different countries around the world, various events and activities are held at the local level, including conferences, seminars, lectures, sports competitions, health fairs, and more. The goal of these activities is to draw public attention to the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Mass campaigns and events focused on health and well-being may be organized during World Health Day. For example, free medical services, sporting events, cycling walks, and marathons. Participation encourages people to take more active care of their health and to receive necessary information and services.

In our country, every year on this day, the "Health Caravan" event is held — free consultations for residents by professors, associate professors, and highly qualified specialists. The aim is to improve disease prevention and detection among rural and hard-to-reach populations.

The project includes:

- Developing the institutional capacity of healthcare facilities for diagnosing and preventing diseases in rural and remote areas through the procurement and supply of two mobile medical units, each consisting of three mobile medical complexes and transport for personnel rotation;

- Developing all necessary organizational and methodological documentation and informational and educational materials for operating the mobile units;

- Conducting initial preventive examinations and health education for the population using these units over the course of one year.
