VISIT TO THE RECTOR OF SHERAZ UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE, ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN, DOCTOR HASHIM SAID BASIR TO THE DEPARTMENT OF OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY OF AVICENNA TAJIK STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

VISIT TO THE RECTOR OF SHERAZ UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE, ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN, DOCTOR HASHIM SAID BASIR TO THE DEPARTMENT OF OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY OF AVICENNA TAJIK STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

On 17 June 2025, Dr. Hashim Said Basir, rector of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (Islamic Republic of Iran), visited Tajikistan and toured the department of Otorhinolaryngology—named in honour of Professor Yu B. Ishoqi of the university. During his visit, he met with the department’s faculty members, teaching staff, and clinical residents, and visited the ear, nose, and throat disease clinic.

The distinguished guest, Dr. Hashim Said Basir, addressed the assembly on various facets of otorhinolaryngology, with a particular emphasis on contemporary techniques for treating ear disorders—specifically, cochlear implantation. He highlighted that the global incidence of childhood deafness and muteness is rising annually, and proposed cochlear implantation as the sole viable solution to address this growing concern.

Vice-rector for educational affairs Ahroriyon Zarina Asror, praised Dr. Basir’s visit to the department as a matter of institutional pride. She observed that such productive engagements significantly foster advancements in both the scientific study and clinical practice of ear, nose, and throat medicine.

Finally, professor Kholmatov Jamol Isroilovich, doctor of medical sciences and head of the department of Otorhinolaryngology—named in honour of Yu. B. Ishoqi—addressed the audience. He discussed the longstanding collaborative relationship between the department of Otorhinolaryngology of the Avicenna Tajik State Medical University and the corresponding department at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Professor Kholmatov emphasized that these two departments have maintained scientific cooperation for decades, with annual reciprocal visits by faculty members to exchange expertise and explore innovative surgical techniques in the treatment of diseases affecting the ear, nose, and throat.
