TERRORISM AND EXTREMISM – THE PLAGUE OF THE CENTURY

“Today terrorism and extremism, like the plague of the century, threaten the security of the world and every inhabitant of the planet, creating a danger for humanity no less than nuclear weapons.”

— Emomali Rahmon

One of the phenomena that has become a global problem in the modern world is international terrorism and extremism. Indeed, these words evoke horror, social instability, fear in people’s hearts, killings, and other tragedies. A person who joins such groups leaves the humane environment and makes destabilizing their homeland their sole objective.

In the modern era, terrorism and extremism are regarded as global threats, and it is possible to combat this hateful phenomenon only through the unity of world civilizations.

The violence of extremism and terrorism continues to expand year by year. In many cases, the development of these phenomena is carried out by radical groups through exploiting the religious beliefs of the population and the insufficient religious knowledge of young people. By these means, they attempt to misuse the sacred religion of Islam to achieve their selfish goals.

Terrorism and extremism, as the plague of the century, threaten global security and every inhabitant of the planet, posing serious danger to humanity. The geography of instability is expanding across different parts of the world, and today millions of people suffer from threats and the devastating fires of wars and conflicts.

The Republic of Tajikistan stands at the forefront of the fight against terrorism and extremism in the modern world and, through its consistent policy, makes a significant contribution to ensuring regional and international security. As early as 1999, a number of legal and regulatory acts were adopted to combat terrorism and extremism. On November 16, 1999, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon signed the Law “On Combating Terrorism,” and on November 21, 2003, the Law “On Combating Extremism” was adopted. These two laws created the legal foundation for combating terrorism and extremism in the country. Tajikistan is among the countries that take concrete measures in this direction and implement them in practice.

Valuing such blessings as independence and national statehood, understanding and protecting the sacred values of the state — this is both a duty and a responsibility, as well as an honor and patriotic pride. It is also the effort of every conscientious citizen striving for self-awareness, enlightenment, and a high national culture.

With full confidence, we can say that we, the courageous, brave, and peace-loving Tajik people, possess strong willpower and will fight by all means — both practical and spiritual — not only against the expansion but also against the infiltration of terrorism and extremism into our beloved homeland.

We, a people of honor and dignity, must condemn extremism and terrorism in all their forms. We must preserve national unity, value this priceless and sacred blessing, and be true patriots who protect their homeland like a rare jewel.

Today, we should be grateful that we live in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility in our beloved Tajikistan. We, the people of the country and the future generation of the nation, must safeguard the peace, stability, unity, and solidarity of our country like the apple of our eye from all threats.
