Terrorism and extremism - «disease of the century»

Terrorism and extremism - «disease of the century»

The political, socio-economic and cultural transformations that are taking place in society have led to certain problems in certain regions of the world and affect the livelihoods of a significant part of the population of these areas.

Naturally, these transformations are taking place under the influence of a system of factors and threats. At the same time, such phenomena as terrorism and extremism, based on violence, fear, religious feelings of people and aimed at weakening state authorities and the foundations of statehood, have become a global threat to the modern world.

On this basis, in order to prevent this global threat, it is necessary to unite the efforts of all countries of the world in this area, as practice shows that only the joint efforts of the world community can eliminate this «disease of the century» from the face of the earth. The facts show that terrorist acts occur every day in the countries of the world, the victims of which are mostly civilians, especially women and children, not to mention the huge economic losses.

As the Founder of peace and national unity- Leader of the nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Honorable Emomali Rahmon noted in his Address to the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan: «We should always keep in mind that terrorism and terrorists cannot be divided into their own and foreign, good or bad. On the contrary, I have repeatedly emphasized that a terrorist has no homeland, religion, faith or nation. Terrorism has a great danger to the stability and security of the entire planet».

In order to strengthen regional security, the Leader of the nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon continues to fully reaffirm in practice his position as a participant in the international coalition to combat transnational terrorism and politico-religious extremism. This is evidenced by his vision of the problem expressed at the opening ceremony of the High-Level International Conference on "Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism" held in Dushanbe on May 4, 2018, where the Head of State noted: «Tajikistan in the field of combating terrorism, extremism, radicalism and other threats of our time, such as illicit trafficking of drugs and weapons, transnational organized crime and cybercrime, is a natural ally of all states of the world, the international community, and the international community».

There is no more reasonable alternative than multilateral cooperation of all countries in the fight against transnational terrorism, especially terrorism based on the religious sentiments of peoples. For it is not Islam that benefits from so-called Islamic terrorism, but political intriguers who deliberately create a false image of Islam as a force that bets on terror. In principle, Islam does not directly affect the sphere of politics. If religion becomes politics, it ceases to be religion. Meanwhile, the way of true Islam is to fill the secular political life with moral values, tolerance, balance and moderation.

Consequently, it is necessary to unite the potential of all institutions of society in the fight against manifestations of extremist views that hinder peaceful and creative coexistence, as well as a decent standard of living for people.
