Tajikistan and the UN are strengthening their cooperation
On July 29, at the Palace of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, hosted Movses Abelian, Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management. The discussion focused on Tajikistan's extensive cooperation with the United Nations, particularly regarding water and climate issues. At the start of the meeting, President Emomali Rahmon expressed his gratitude for the constructive collaboration, including the organization of thematic conferences, especially those related to water and climate issues in our country under the United Nations' auspices. He emphasized that Tajikistan supports the further strengthening of the United Nations' role in international affairs and values its efforts to enhance global understanding to maintain peace, stability, and development.
The adoption of 10 resolutions concerning Tajikistan's proposals and the support of our country’s international initiatives by the organization’s member countries were highlighted as outcomes of successful cooperation. During the meeting, the parties discussed further advancement of the Dushanbe Water Process and the potential hosting of the United Nations Water Conference in 2028 in Tajikistan's capital. They also engaged in a comprehensive discussion on implementing the goals of the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028.” Additionally, the parties had a productive dialogue on other mutual interests.
