STUDENT PRESENTATION REPORT
Title: Comprehensive Overview of Glaucoma and its new surgical methodology and Ayurvedic Management
The session on Comprehensive Overview of Glaucoma and its new surgical methodology and Ayurvedic Management was organized by students of group 10, second year of Bachelor Degree of Avicenna Tajik State Medical University on 19th of March, 2025. The venue was Pharmacological department of ATSMU.
The total number of students attending session was 17 and 6 teachers presented in the session including Head of Department Urunova Muhabat Vahobovna. The group was led by teacher Boboeva Mohira Jafarovna.
The session was presented by two international students from India named as: Ashwin Sebastian presenting about Glaucoma – Definition, Types, Clinical Examination, Medical Management and Krishna Prathap on Ayurvedic Treatment of Glaucoma and Approaches. The topic was divided into two segments: 1. Glaucoma – Allopathic Understanding (Presented by Ashwin Sebastian) providing a comprehensive explanation of glaucoma as a progressive optic neuropathy, discussed the primary and secondary types, as well as open-angle and closed-angle glaucoma as well as explanations of diagnostic methods such as tonometry, ophthalmoscopy, and perimetry. Detailed the various classes of medications used in modern treatment including beta-blockers, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, adrenergic agonists, prostaglandin analogs, and combination therapies. 2. Ayurvedic Treatment of Glaucoma (Presented by Krishna Prathap) introducing glaucoma in Ayurveda as “Adhimantha” caused by dosha imbalances. Highlighted Ayurvedic therapies such as Netratarpana, Nasya, Jalaukavacharana (leech therapy), and Shirodhara. Discussed herbal remedies like Triphala, Amla, Guggulu, Bhringraj, and Brahmi, focusing on their role in reducing intraocular pressure and improving optic nerve health.
As per Audience Feedback, all present students actively engaged with the session and understood the concepts explained. The presence of 6 faculty members, including the Head of Department, contributed to the academic value and credibility of the presentation.
Conclusion: The presentation was well-structured and successfully conveyed essential clinical and traditional insights on glaucoma management. It facilitated a good understanding among students and was appreciated by the faculty.
