SCIENTIFIC AND EDUCATIONAL SEMINAR “RAISING AWARENESS OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE AND PROMOTING KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION” WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PROPAEDEUTICS OF CHILDREN’S DISEASES
From October 6 to 10, 2025, a scientific and educational seminar titled “Raising awareness of chronic kidney disease and promoting kidney transplantation” was held at the pediatric nephrology department of the State Institution “Istiqlol Medical Complex” under the guidance of the Ministry of health and social protection of the population of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The event featured an international keynote speaker, Dr. Aimun Ahmed, MD, PhD, consultant nephrologist at Royal Preston Hospital, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, UK, as well as Dr. Vitaly Berdinsky, MD, head of the peritoneal dialysis unit of the nephrology department No. 4 of the Moscow clinical scientific and research center, hospital No. 52, Russian Federation.
The main goal of the seminar was to enhance medical professionals’ awareness of chronic kidney disease (CKD), emphasize the importance of early diagnosis, and promote kidney transplantation as an effective treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
The seminar gathered nephrologists from the SI «Istiqlol Medical Complex» in Dushanbe, representatives from various regions of Tajikistan, and faculty members of the department of propaedeutics of children’s diseases, Avicenna Tajik State Medical University.
Professor Aimun Ahmed delivered a comprehensive lecture based on evidence-based medicine, focusing on modern approaches to managing CKD patients, highlighting global strategies for early detection, and discussing the role of transplantation in improving patient outcomes. Dr. Vitaly Berdinsky presented an informative lecture on peritoneal dialysis, sharing his extensive experience in organizing peritoneal dialysis programs, modern treatment protocols, and patient education strategies crucial for successful therapy.
During the seminar presentations and discussions, the following key topics were addressed:
- Risk factors and stages of chronic kidney disease
- Diagnostic methods and laboratory assessment
- Ethical and social aspects of organ donation
- The role of peritoneal dialysis in the management of end-stage renal disease
- Prospects for developing kidney transplantation programs in Tajikistan
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants expressed deep gratitude to the invited speakers and the leadership of the Ministry of health and social protection of the population of the Republic of Tajikistan for organizing this significant educational event. The seminar contributed to improving professional competence and strengthening academic and clinical collaboration between Tajik, Russian, and international medical communities, marking an important step forward in the development of nephrology and transplantology in the Republic of Tajikistan.
