Representatives of Indian pharmaceutical companies met with Tajik entrepreneurs in Dushanbe

Representatives from Indian pharmaceutical firms convened with Tajik entrepreneurs in Dushanbe. During the discussion, it was disclosed that 582 types of medications are officially listed in Tajikistan, with over 65 Indian pharmaceutical companies directly engaged in the manufacturing of these products. Although the country is home to more than 4,500 herbs and medicinal plants, only 10 percent of these are utilized in the production of pharmaceuticals. The nation's abundant and environmentally friendly natural resources remain largely underexploited.

In this context, one of the goals of the meeting between Indian pharmaceutical representatives and Tajik entrepreneurs was to examine opportunities for creating joint ventures to produce medicines with Indian investment.

The pharmaceutical industry is considered one of the most crucial sectors for economic development and enhancing the quality of life. In recent years, the pharmaceutical industry in India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing sectors and aims to become the global leader in the field.

The Tajik side is keen to expand trade, economic, and investment cooperation with India, including the establishment of joint ventures for the production of pharmaceuticals.

To accelerate the country's industrialization, the years 2022-2026 have been designated as the Years of Industrial Development in Tajikistan. As part of this strategic national objective, the development of sectors such as light and food industries, metallurgy and machine building, pharmaceuticals, production of construction materials, installation and implementation of modern technologies, and the final processing of raw materials—including medicinal herbs—has been planned. Favorable foundations have been laid to support the realization of these objectives.

Currently, there are five free economic zones in Tajikistan, where all necessary conditions have been established for foreign investors and entrepreneurs. The country also is continuing the development of industrial zones, technology parks, and business incubators.

Small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises operate within these zones. The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan consistently supports profitable projects aimed at creating joint ventures, including those in the pharmaceutical industry.

The meeting was attended by representatives from more than 70 pharmaceutical companies from India.
