PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR MENINGOCOCCAL INFECTION

PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR MENINGOCOCCAL INFECTION

Menongococcal infection is an acute anthroponotic infectious disease with an aerosol transmission mechanism characterized by fever, intoxication, hemorrhagic rash, purulent inflammation of the brain membranes.

The reservoir and source of the pathogen is ̶ a sick person with various manifestations of the disease and a bacterial carrier. The main source of the disease is patients with a mild form of the disease and bacterial carriers, as an active lifestyle allows them to have many contacts with healthy people.

Mostly children under 5 years of age are ill.

The season of meningococcal infection begins in the fall and peaks in February-March. In recent years, there has been a periodic increase in meningococcal infection, both generalized and localized forms and bacterial carriers, which are rarely detected.

To prevent meningococcal infection, the following measures should be taken:

1. Hospitalization of patients with various manifestations of the disease and their isolation.

2. Exclude prolonged contact with patients with generalized meningococcal infection.

3. Identification and sanitation of bacterial carriers.

4. Compliance with the rules of personal hygiene and the use of protective equipment (gloves, masks).

5. On epidemiologic indications administer vaccines for the prevention of meningococcal infections.
