Mehrgon holiday was revived during the period of independence. According to the resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated August 5, 2009, number 538, Mehrgon holiday is celebrated in all corners of our country with great pomp and splendor. The founder of national peace and unity, leader of the nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon at one of the meetings with intellectuals of the country called Mehrgon one of the ancient holidays of Tajik people and called for revival of this holiday. Mehrgon festival has a very long history. Tajik scientists, referring to Aburaihon Beruni's book "Osor-ul-boqiya", have studied the history of Mehrgon holiday for more than 3 thousand years. It is said that Mehr is the name of the Sun and in the Sassanid ritual, a crown with the image of the Sun was placed on the head. According to the opinion and beliefs of our ancestors, Mehrgon was celebrated on the first day of the month of Mehr and the beginning of fall. There is cosmic balance in it, in these days day and night are equal, and for this reason this month was named Mehr.

According to the tradition of our ancestors, many ceremonies were held on the days of Mehrgon holiday, because in ancient times the occupation of most people was agriculture. "Mehrgon" is collected from various domestic and foreign sources, it is a proof of our people's path in the field of history for thousands of years and is enriched with a mixture of legends, myths and oral creations of people. A lot of information and names you come across are still alive in the language of our parents. According to the tradition of our ancestors, many ceremonies were held on the days of Mehrgon holiday, because in ancient times the occupation of most people was farming. So after the harvest, it was a good time for farmers to celebrate and relax.

Every year, considering that Mehrgon is best known as the festival of farmers, and in our era this holiday is a symbol of centuries-old history and rich culture of our ancestors. It is a reason to rejoice that in the era of independence, historical festivals have been revived on the initiative of the head of state. At Mehrgon festivals, exhibitions of various kinds of fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products are displayed, parties and performances are held.
