MEETING OF THE STUDENT SCIENTIFIC SOCIETY AT THE DEPARTMENT OF PROPAEDEUTICS OF CHILDREN'S DISEASES
On April 19, 2025, at the Department of Propaedeutics of Children’s Diseases of the SEI "ATSMU", a regular meeting of the Student Scientific Society was held under the guidance of assistant Ghiyosov A.A. The session used interactive teaching methods on the topic: "Semiotics and syndromes of digestive system disorders in children."
Main objectives of the meeting:
ü deepening students' knowledge in the field of semiotics of digestive system diseases in children;
ü systematizing knowledge of the main syndromes affecting the gastrointestinal tract in childhood and their clinical manifestations;
ü developing skills in clinical thinking and interpretation of symptoms and signs of digestive system diseases in children;
ü increasing students’ interest in research activities in the field of pediatric gastroenterology.
Third-year medical students prepared two presentations:
1. "Features of the Semiotics of Digestive System Diseases in Children" (definition of semiotics, main concepts such as symptom, sign, syndrome; classification of symptoms and signs considering age-related nuances; the role of anamnesis (especially history taking from children and their parents) and physical examination in semiotic analysis).
2. "Key Syndromes of Digestive System Disorders in Children and Their Semiotic Features" (a detailed discussion on the semiotics of dyspeptic syndrome, abdominal pain syndrome, malabsorption syndrome, jaundice syndrome, regurgitation and vomiting syndrome in children of different ages with examples of clinical manifestations).
Interactive Discussion:
· analysis of clinical cases (4 brief case studies presented, including complaints from parents and objective data from children of different ages);
· tasks for students involving symptom interpretation, identification of the main syndrome, and formulation of a preliminary diagnosis considering age-specific features;
· discussion of differential diagnosis of the most common digestive diseases in children.
Meeting outcomes:
Ø students showed significant interest in the features of semiotics of digestive system diseases in children.
Ø active participation in the discussion and analysis of clinical cases contributed to a better understanding of the age-related aspects of clinical presentation.
Ø most students successfully completed the tasks on interpreting semiotic signs in children.
