MAY 9-VICTORY DAY

MAY 9-VICTORY DAY

May 9 is one of the most important and memorable days in the history of many countries. On this day, people celebrate the victory over Nazi Germany during World War II. The holiday symbolizes the end of a difficult war, the courage of soldiers, and the memory of millions of people who died for peace. The war began in 1939 and became the largest armed conflict in human history.

For the peoples of the Soviet Union, it is known as the Great Patriotic War, which began on June 22, 1941, after Nazi Germany attacked. On May 8, 1945, Germany signed the act of surrender. However, due to the time difference, it was already May 9 in Moscow, which is why this date became Victory Day. Since then, every year on May 9 people remember the heroism of soldiers, home-front workers, and everyone who fought for freedom. On Victory Day, many countries hold ceremonial events: military parades; laying flowers at monuments; meetings with veterans; festive concerts and fireworks.

One of the well-known traditions is the “Immortal Regiment” march, when people go out into the streets carrying photographs of their relatives who participated in the war. This day reminds us of the price at which peace was achieved. Millions of people died on the front lines and in the rear. Victory Day teaches us to respect history, remember the heroism of our ancestors, and value peaceful life.

May 9 is not only a celebration of victory but also a day of remembrance and gratitude. People of different generations gather together to honor the heroes of the war and preserve the memory of past events. Thanks to their courage, the world received a chance for a future without war.
