Interactive teaching methods in the Department of Surgery

Interactive teaching methods in the Department of Surgery

Relevance. The last decades are marked by rapid development and implementation of innovative technologies in various areas of human activity. Including in the medical pedagogical branch. This is especially clearly demonstrated in active and interactive methods of teaching students of surgery. The very concept of interactivity comes from the English word "interaction", meaning "interaction", i.e. the degree of interaction between objects. It can be fully presented as teaching based on interaction between students and with the instructor. Modern requirements of teaching to students should take into account prospective aspects of achievements in surgery, specifically in our department - minivasive direction. As such it refers to endosurgery, a new trend of medical technology. These techniques allow students to become more familiar with the promising paths of medical development. The goal is to improve the degree of knowledge and mastery of the subject of surgery by students at the university department.

Material and methods. We at the department actively and widely used interactive methods of teaching students. Such as: role-playing games, demonstration of video clips (operations of the clinic), developed at the department of various cases, round table and further. Repeatedly training was conducted jointly with teachers from our friendly Republic of Kazakhstan, more precisely Karaganda Medical Academy (on the academic line). Such exchanges of experience allowed us to improve the level of teaching interactive methods to students and at the same time to improve the qualification of teachers.

Results. In solving the proposed cases, students learn to sort out the main complaints of patients, to group their one-stage combinations, to develop an examination plan based on the results of their analysis and make a preliminary diagnosis of patients, further to find the key to solving the problem, i.e. to treat patients. The students' great interest in learning is achieved by selecting the discussion aspect of the topic, where there is a controversy.

Conclusions. Thus, high requirements to students on the basis of their professional training gives the opportunity in the future to become good specialists, and are the key to good quality of medical care. The above listed methods of interactive learning are designed to solve the main problem formulated in students - to learn to learn to learn. This means that the acquired truth is not so "easy" to achieve. In this case, much more important is the development of student's thinking, based primarily on the analysis of the current clinical situation, individual (personal) search for information, building that necessary logical link followed by the only balanced, competent and justified decision. The proposed interactive teaching methods contribute to even more cognitive activity of students, while being flexible, with the development of clinical thinking and formation of students to make decisions in typical and extraordinary cases. Modern teaching methods create an effective platform for improving the competence of medical services.
