EXTREMISM AND TERRORISM ARE A GLOBAL THREAT OF MODERN TIMES
In the modern world, terrorism and extremism represent some of the most dangerous and destructive phenomena, threatening not only individual states but also global security. Despite measures taken at the international level, these threats continue to gain momentum, spreading across various regions of the planet and creating serious social, political, and economic consequences.
Quote from the Leader of the Nation – The Importance of National Identity
The Honorable Emomali Rahmon, Founder of National Peace and Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, noted in one of his speeches:
"A nation that loses its national identity, history, literature, language, rituals, and cultural values cannot maintain its independence. A nation that does not preserve its historical memory, whether it wants to or not, becomes enslaved and loses its national independence. Failure to protect a nation's history leads to a denial of the past."
These words emphasize the importance of preserving national identity as the foundation of resilience and protection from external and internal threats, including terrorism and extremism.
The Danger of Terrorism and Extremism
Terrorism and extremism, like the "plague of the century," wreak havoc, sow fear and enmity among people, undermine the stability of states, and destabilize peace throughout the world. These phenomena are accompanied not only by physical violence but also by the destruction of the moral, spiritual, and cultural foundations of society.
According to international data, terrorist attacks have occurred in more than 100 countries in recent years. As a result of such actions, hundreds of thousands of civilians have died, and millions have been forced to flee their homes and become refugees.
Tajikistan's Role in the Fight against Terrorism
The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan attaches particular importance to the fight against terrorism, extremism, and other modern threats. This fight is an important aspect of both domestic and foreign policy. Tajikistan takes an active role in ensuring regional and international security and is at the forefront of countering these destructive phenomena. At the present stage, the most important task of society is to protect state independence, strengthen national unity, and maintain peace and stability in the country. These goals require a high level of consciousness, responsibility, and patriotism from every citizen of Tajikistan.
Despite positive efforts, serious difficulties arise on the path to building a peaceful and secure future. Extremist and terrorist attacks remain one of the main threats, which have become especially dangerous in the current environment. The rise of ideological and religious extremism, as well as the recruitment of young people into terrorist organizations, are increasing tensions in international relations and undermining the internal security of states.
Extremism (from the French "extrémisme" and the Latin "extremus" - extreme) is a commitment to extreme views and actions that go beyond generally accepted norms. Extremist activity can manifest itself in religious, political, ideological, scientific, and other spheres.
An extremist is someone who supports and implements extreme measures to achieve their goals. Terrorism (from the Latin terror—fear, horror) is an ideology of violence and the practice of influencing public consciousness and state institutions through violent means, including intimidation of the population and terrorist acts. It is a policy based on the systematic use of terror to achieve specific goals.
The rise of terrorist and extremist groups on the international stage, the financing of such organizations, and the dissemination of their ideologies via the internet and other communication channels leads to the destruction of the moral foundations of society. Young people are particularly vulnerable in this process, actively recruited into radical movements, often under the guise of religious slogans.
As President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon noted in one of his addresses to the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan:
Peace, stability, and unity are the greatest values that must be carefully preserved. Past and present experience demonstrates how hard independence is earned and how important it is to strengthen it in the face of global challenges. Without peace and security, the development of the economy, culture, science, and society as a whole is impossible. Despite its positive aspects, globalization also contributes to the spread of undesirable phenomena. Therefore, it is important to utilize its benefits for the benefit of the country, strengthening national interests, national unity, and a culture of peace.
The fight against terrorism and extremism is not only the duty of the state but also the responsibility of every citizen. Only through joint efforts can we ensure a bright future for Tajikistan and the entire planet.
