Extremism among youth as a socio-political phenomenon

Extremism among youth as a socio-political phenomenon

Extremism is usually characterized as the commitment of various subjects of social relations to extreme views and measures from the point of view of society in order to achieve certain goals. In conditions when the commitment of such subjects to extreme views and measures is widespread enough, it is accompanied by the formation of relevant ideologies, doctrines, teachings, as well as social practices. In certain circumstances, it is accompanied by the creation of certain organizational structures to implement the relevant ideological attitudes and practical intentions. Extremism can be characterized as a relatively stable social phenomenon, as a widespread socially dangerous social phenomenon. In modern conditions, the extremist nature of certain ideologies and practical activities of various subjects of extremism is usually identified with the use of illegitimate violence and other extreme measures, as well as with the corresponding organizational and propaganda activities.

The main features of extremism, in which its social essence is expressed, are: the socio-political orientation of the ideology and practice of this social phenomenon; the use of illegitimate violence as the main method of achieving the goals of the subjects of this phenomenon; aggressiveness of ideological and political attitudes and practical actions of the latter; increased social danger. The political orientation of extremism in the youth environment is expressed, first of all, in the main goals and objects of extremism, which implies the struggle of its subjects for power - for its conquest or preservation, for changing the socio-political structure of society or state policy, for the elimination or weakening of their political opponents, etc. The use of illegitimate violence as an essential feature of extremism in the youth environment determines the destructive nature of this phenomenon, its increased danger, incompatibility with the moral and legal foundations of modern democratic society.

Aggressiveness of extremism in the youth environment is expressed in the uncompromising activity of its subjects, is generated by intolerance and often fanaticism of the latter, inadequate assessment of their own and the opponent's needs and interests. It causes disregard for the interests and rights of the opposing party, complete absence or extremely small range of readiness to search for ways to resolve contradictions on the basis of compromises and agreements. The increased social danger of extremism in the youth environment, caused, first of all, by its inherent illegitimate violent nature of resolving social contradictions and conflicts, is expressed in the multiplicity and extreme severity of threats of the phenomenon under consideration to the vital interests of individuals, society and the state, for their security.

Thus, extremism in the youth environment can be considered as an inadequate way of resolving socio-political contradictions of some young people in the field of class, interethnic, religious and other social relations by the relevant subjects of the latter. At the same time, due to its predominantly violent nature, extremism in the youth environment poses a serious threat to state security - the most important element of national security.

Extremism in the youth environment as a negative socio-political phenomenon is characterized by a complex structure. Its main components, with a relatively high level of development of this phenomenon, are ideological, activity and organizational aspects. The ideological aspect of extremism in the youth environment is expressed in those or other theories, concepts (etc.) of extremist orientation (pro-communist, neo-Nazi, anarchist, etc.), designed for ideological and political unification of extremist-minded individuals, justification of their proposed goals of struggle and the need to use illegal forms and methods of activity to achieve them, as well as the acquisition of like-minded people and gaining the support of society.

The organizational aspect of extremism in the youth environment serves for the organizational and political unification of those or other forces of a certain extremist orientation, involves the development of strategic and tactical bases of their activities, their management, financial and logistical support of extremist activities, etc. The activity aspect of extremism in the youth environment, or its practice, is expressed in the direct extremist impact on the opponents of extremists - the objects of the phenomenon in question in various forms of illegitimate violence and other extreme measures, etc. It is purposeful in nature and is expressed in a wide range of extremist actions. The interaction of the above-mentioned structural elements of extremism in the youth environment is designed to ensure the realization of the goals and objectives of its subjects.

At present, such formed types of threats of extremism in the youth environment as negative socio-political processes of extremist orientation, purposeful activities of certain extremist structures, as well as specific socially dangerous actions of executors of specific extremist actions are quite clearly manifested.
