EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF MULBERRY INFUSION ON CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM

EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF MULBERRY INFUSION ON CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM

In recent years, medicinal plants have been widely used in practical medicine. Phytopreparations are characterized by a wide range of pharmacological action, effectiveness, availability and low toxicity. In addition, they in the body more physiologically intervene in the metabolism. On the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan in the food industry is particularly popular fruit of mulberry (Morus alba) - tut (taj.) as fresh and canned. In folk medicine, mulberry is considered one of the best for increasing appetite normalization of carbohydrate metabolism, as well as to improve digestion.

This experimental model was induced in 30 white rats by a single intraperitoneal (w/w) injection of 20% glucose solution at a dose of 5 ml/kg animal weight. The studied rats were divided into 3 groups: 1- intact (healthy); 2 - control rats (untreated) - intragastrically (w/w) administered distilled water at a dose of 5 ml/kg of animal weight half an hour before w/w administration of 20% glucose solution 3 - experimental animals, which were administered w/w infusion of mulberry at a dose of 5 ml/kg according to the same scheme. The efficacy of mulberry infusion was compared with the group of control rats. The criterion for evaluation of hypoglycemic properties of mulberry leaf infusion was the ability of the studied objects to lower the sugar content in blood serum in animals. In all groups of experimental rats blood was collected for further biochemical study. Blood was taken 30 minutes before w/w (baseline) administration of the studied objects and after administration of the infusions. After 15 minutes, 20% glucose solution was injected once w/w at a dose of 5ml/kg. Then by dissecting the lower gingiva of experimental rats blood was collected. At 30 minutes after the injection of glucose solution, blood was drawn once according to the same scheme. The level of sugar in the blood serum of rats was determined by the orthotoluidine method.

The obtained results showed that 15 minutes after injection of 20% glucose solution at a dose of 5ml/kg of animal weight, the concentration of sugar in blood serum in the control group of animals increased by 7.1±0.3 mmol/l, amounting to 163%, while the initial index was 4.8±0.1 mmol/l (100%). Thirty minutes after glucose injection, this index decreased and amounted to 5.6±0.3 mmol/L (121%).

Thus, the obtained results prove the sugar-reducing properties of mulberry infusion. The studied infusion reduces the increased level of glucose in blood serum of experimental rats, i.e. it has hypoglycemic effect. According to literature data, Tajik scientists proved that flavonoid-containing and essential oil plants improve the functional state of the pancreas and increase the activity of B-cells of islets of Langerhans islets. We also explain the hypoglycemic effect of mulberry infusion by this mechanism of action.
