ChildCA project of the Erasmus Plus program meeting was held in Dushanbe on October 25-27, 2021

On 25 - 27 October 2021 within the walls of the State Educational Institution "Avicenna Tajik State Medical University” held a regular meeting in the framework of the project Improving childcare teaching as a model for improving medical education in Central Asia within the Erasmus Plus program.

Representatives of the University of Pavia (Italy) arrived in Dushanbe - Gian Battista Parigi (project coordinator), Martina Altea Bellinzona, Alena Poilova; Freiburg University (Germany) - Tobias Wowra; Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi - Raushan Binomovna Issaeva, Saule Suleimanova; Kazakh National Medical University named after S. D. Asfendiyarova – Konrad Juszkiewicz; Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute – Saida Nabievna Saidkhodzhaeva, Sabir Nurkhodzhaev; Bukhara State Medical Institute named after Abu Ali ibn Sina - Gaukhar Zhanuzakovna Zharilkasinova and Ahad Akhmedov. Tajikistan was represented by State Educational Institution Avicenna Tajik State Medical University (Jamshed Saidboboevich Dodkhoev, Lola Abdunaimovna Babaeva, Khuseyn Nazarovich Egamnazarov, Jomi Nematulloveich Azizov), Institute of Postgraduate Education in Healthcare of the Republic of Tajikistan (Ergashoi Jononovna Khairulloeva, Nazanin Sultonovna Zamirova) and Khatlon State Medical University (Sabohat Mamadalieva, Naimakhon Kuzibaeva). Representatives of the Jagielon University (Poland) and some Kazakh colleagues participated online.

The first day of the meeting was opened with a welcoming speech by the vice-rector of SEI “ATSMU” Kobilov Kobiljon Kendzhaevich, briefly reporting on the interaction of the University with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of reforming postgraduate education.

The next speaker was the coordinator of the ChildCA project, Professor of the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Pavia, Dr. Gian Battista Parigi. He emphasized that this meeting in Dushanbe is the most important, since is aimed at coordinating the introduction of new training programs for clinical residency at partner universities.

The entire first day and part of the second day of the meeting were devoted to the training programs of clinical residency in pediatrics, pediatric psychoneurology and pediatric surgery. According to the projects of new curricula, along with the acquisition of the necessary practical skills and competencies, time is also given for theoretical knowledge in a very wide range of subjects, including such areas as bioethics, evidence-based medicine, information technology in medicine, scientific English, etc. According to the assurances of the European partners, the introduction of these changes will bring the postgraduate education of Central Asian universities closer to European education, which will subsequently allow for the mutual recognition of postgraduate training diplomas between the countries of the European Union and Central Asia.

On October 26, Professor Parigi was received by the rector of SEI “ATSMU” MD, professor Mahmadshoh Qurbonali Gulzoda. During the meeting, Professor Parigi informed the rector of the university about the plans to introduce new training programs for clinical residency and enlisted his support.

An equally important point of the meeting in Dushanbe was the presentation of the project to representatives of the Ministries of Health of the Central Asian republics. On the part of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the chief specialist of the Department of Science and Education Aliyev Sarvar took part in the meeting, from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan, the head of the Department of Medical and Pharmaceutical Education, Personnel Policy and Science Salomuddin Jabbor Yusufi, a representative of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in online mode.

During the discussion, Professor Yusufi mentioned that the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan has initiated at the Government level the consideration of a project for reforming postgraduate medical education in the Republic of Tajikistan. He offered to support the implementation of training programs in the form of pilot ones for further comparison of the results of the existing training program and the one proposed by the project.

In addition, a presentation of the planned new structural project was made to representatives of the Ministries, which will serve as support for the current one and will include interested ministries as direct partners.

As a result of the meeting in Dushanbe, the approval and adoption of programs at the level of the partner universities in the form of pilot projects was agreed, the internship of young teachers in the European partner universities was agreed.

During their stay in Dushanbe, the guests visited the museum and archaeological complex "Gissar Fortress" and the National Museum of Tajikistan, where they got acquainted with the history and culture of the Tajik people.
