Today, December 22^nd 2022, in "Sino" hall of the SEI “ Avicenna Tajik State Medical University”, with the participation of Director of the "Center for the Study of Glaciers, National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan" and a wide range of teachers and students of the university, dedicated to the adoption of the fifth international initiative of Tajikistan, held scientific and practical event of the international community in the water sphere - "2025 International Year of Protection of Glaciers". The event was opened by the Rector of the ATSMU d.m.s., professor Gulzoda Makhmadshoh Qurbonali, who spoke about the importance of protecting glaciers and the importance of Tajikistan's global water initiatives, including the fifth initiative - "International Protection of Glaciers until 2025". Rector of the University, professor Gulzoda M.Q. referring to the statements of the founder of peace and national unity - the leader of the nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the respected Emomali Rahmon, noted that there are many glaciers on Earth and the importance of glaciers in nature, life and economic activities of people is very great. Glaciers serve as a source of water for regions with low precipitation on Earth. Tajikistan is known on the world stage as a proactive state in the field of water and climate, and four international initiatives of the Tajik side were submitted to the UN with the unanimous support of the international community by the visionary efforts of the Founder of the World. and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations by special resolution and give effective results for the benefit of humanity.

Also at the event the director of the Glacier Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, professor Qayumov Abdulhamid spoke about the global importance of Tajikistan's international water initiatives, which pursue not only for the development of one country, but also for the progress of countries around the world and protect the planet from global risks is provided with detailed information. At the event, during the speaker's speech it was assessed that the fifth initiative of the Tajik side was presented in March 2021 during the speech of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan his excellency Emomali Rahmon at the first online meeting of the High Level Panel on Water and Climate, according to which 2025 should be declared the International Year of Glacier Protection and the date of the World Glacier Day was determined.As the Head of State his excellency Emomali Rahmon emphasized: "If in the sixties of the last century the amount of water per capita in Central Asia was more than eight thousand cubic meters per year, today this figure has decreased by more than four times and it is just over two thousand cubic meters per year”.

We are honored that on December 14, 2022, the United Nations General Assembly at its 77^th session unanimously adopted resolution "2025 International Year to Protect Glaciers”. The resolution "International Year to Protect Glaciers 2025" is considered one of the rare resolutions, as it contains both the declaration of an International Day and an International Year. The next step of the founder of peace and national unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon was adopted with the support of 153 UN member states.

According to this resolution, firstly, the year 2025 was declared the International Year of Glacier Conservation.

Second, beginning in 2025, March 21 will be celebrated annually as World Glacier Day.
