Armed Forces Day, also known as Tajik National Army Day is a national holiday which is celebrated annually on February 23^rd to commemorate the founding of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan. On this day, congratulations go out to military personnel, for whom Defender of the Fatherland Day is a special holiday. The history of the holiday is about 100 years old. February 23, 2023 is a special date, as it will be thirty years since the creation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan. The issue of creating the Armed Forces was raised only after the historic sixteenth session of the Supreme Soviet. Despite numerous difficulties, the basic prerequisites for the establishment of the Tajik national army were laid in 1993. On February 23, 1993 the first military parade of the Tajik National Army took place. Since this day February 23^rd is annually marked as the date of establishment of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan. Today, the Armed Forces of Tajikistan consist of two structures: ground forces, air force and air defense. About 15,000 to 16,000 personnel are drafted into the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan annually.
