WORLD TEACHERS' DAY

WORLD TEACHERS' DAY

World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5 October to celebrate all teachers around the globe. It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding therights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions. The Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel was adopted in 1997 to complement the 1966 Recommendation by covering teaching personnel in higher education. World Teachers’ Day has been celebrated since 1994. It is a day to celebrate how teachers are transforming education but also to reflect on the support they need to fully deploy their talent and vocation, and to rethink the way ahead for the profession globally. World Teachers’ Day is co-convened in partnership with the International Labour Organization, UNICEF and Education International. In 2026, the Day marks the 60th anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation. The commemorations will focus on the importance of protecting and advancing the status of the teaching profession in a rapidly changing world.World Teachers' Day invariably takes place on October 5, in some countries the holiday is celebrated on other days close to this date. In our Republic of Tajikistan, this holiday is celebrated on the first Sunday of October. This is a professional holiday for all teachers, teachers and educators - a day on which the merits of teachers are celebrated, as well as their great contribution to the development of society. A teacher is a great person who devotes his heart, his gaze and all his being to the education of the younger generation. We owe all our life successes, knowledge and professions primarily to our teachers. No wonder the people say: "The teacher is as great as the father." Today, the development of the education system in our country, as well as increasing the prestige and status of teachers in society, have become one of the main priorities of state policy. Modern schools are being built, new technologies are being introduced into the educational process. However, no modern technologies can replace mental warmth, enthusiasm and live communication with teachers. Teachers teach students not only the basics of science, but also instill love for the Motherland, respect for national values   and a sense of humanity. His contribution to the upbringing of a mature generation - the future of our country - is invaluable.
